As the Harpist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Harp Instructor of the Macao Conservatory and the President of the Macao Harp Association, Leong Cheok Wun has been characterized as an active and outgoing harpist. In completing her Master Degree at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (USA), she has competed and won the position of principal harpist in the CCM Philharmonic Orchestra’ s full production of Swan Lake (2016), performed as soloist with the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra (2015), as well as winning the 3Arts Music Scholarship Auditions in Cincinnati Ohio with a c cash award of USD 3,200 (2016).
First Prize of The 27th Macao Young Musicians Competition
Originally from Macao, Leong started music on the Gu-zheng at the age of 10 at the Macao Conservatory, studied with Qian Zhou, where she encountered the harp at age 15, studied under the guidance of Li-Qun Li. She was the first harpist to win First Prize of The 27th Macao Young Musicians Competition in the Harp Solo Category, and won the Talented Prize provided by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government.
Hong Kong Harp Competition
As a Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau Scholarship recipient, she completed her Bachelor Degree at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing China under Professor Lin Lin Wei from 2010 to 2014. Her highlights include winning the Bronze Medal at the Second Hong Kong Harp Competition in the Young Professional Category (2013), and performing in high-profile orchestras in Asia which include China Philharmonic Orchestra, National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Macau Chinese Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra and among others. Her private teachers include Liya Huang and Jason Chang.
Master Degree at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music
Leong holds her Master Degree at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music studying under Dr. Gillian Benet Sella (Principal Harpist, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), with full scholarship as the graduate assistant of the harp studio.
